Delphina hotels & resorts Showcases New Eco-friendly Photovoltaic Systems After Winning Multiple Green Awards at The World Travel Awards 2023

Delphina hotels and resorts has bolstered its green investments with the completion of two in-house photovoltaic systems, a renewable energy technology which converts solar energy into electricity. This comes hot on the heels of winning multiple awards including Europe’s Leading Green Independent Hotel Group at the World Travel Awards 2023.

Delphina hotels & resorts, the 5* and 4* independent hospitality chain in Northern Sardinia, has won five awards at the World Travel Awards 2023, known as the ‘Oscars of global tourism’, the most coveted accolades in the international tourism industry. The awards include:

  1. Europe’s Leading Green Independent Hotel Group
  2. Italy’s Leading Hotel Group
  3. Europe’s Leading Green Resort at the Valle dell’Erica Resort
  4. Italy’s Leading Green Resort at the Valle dell’Erica Resort
  5. Italy’s Leading Beach Resort at the Resort & SPA Le Dune in Badesi

Libero Muntoni (General Manager at Delphina hotels & awards) commented, “The completion of the two solar plants represents a significant achievement towards our goal of total energy independence, and these awards are a testament to the forward-thinking path we embarked on thirty years ago. We’ll continue striving to offer an increasingly eco-friendly holiday experience that respects and protects the unique and wonderous natural Sardinian environment.”

The Sardinian hotel chain reaffirms its victory with five prestigious awards, including three green ones, showcasing Delphina’s foresight regarding sustainability. A journey that began even before the establishment of the first of eight resorts, and has reached a new milestone with the completion of two solar plants at the Resort & SPA Le Dune in Badesi and the Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre in Palau. “We’ve completed the first phase of a significant direct production project,” states Libero “and these awards prove that the path we embarked on thirty years ago was the right one. We’ll continue with further substantial investments aimed at an ever-decreasing environmental footprint.”

Green investments include the completion of two solar plants and the launch of a third project. The first solar mechanism, comprising nine single canopies and 30 double ones, with a total power of 752.1 kilowatt peak, was built at the Resort & SPA Le Dune in Badesi, catering for internal energy consumption and electric car charging. The parking area housing the canopies includes 276 parking spaces and 45 charging points. The second facility was set up to service the Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre in Palau, consisting of 421 solar panels installed on various building roofs, with a total power of 231.5 kilowatt peak to meet the facility’s energy needs. Additionally, there’s another significant plant to be built in 2024 within a company connected to Delphina which will greatly enhance production.

Another milestone added to the numerous sustainability projects already underway, foremost being the use of 100% green energy from renewable sources in all Delphina hotels and the main office. This has saved around 20,663 tonnes of Co2eq over the past 6 years, an amount absorbed by approximately 146,089 trees annually. This effort culminated in the “We are green®” brand, conceived and registered by Delphina to symbolise its commitment to the environment. The company has adopted significant plastic-free policies, saving 722,871 plastic bottles in the past four years. Moreover, it supports local suppliers with the “Genuine Local Food Oriented®” initiative, promoting healthy cuisine based on genuine, seasonal, preferably local ingredients.

Beyond Delphina’s award as the leading Italian hotel group, the Valle dell’Erica Resort has been confirmed for the fifth time as “Europe’s Leading Green Resort”, also receiving the national award as “Italy’s Leading Green Resort”. This is a remarkable achievement for the 5* resort in Santa Teresa Gallura, nestled within 28 hectares of parkland, overlooking the La Maddalena and Southern Corsica archipelagos and boasting 1,400 meters of white sandy beaches and coves. The Resort & SPA Le Dune in Badesi was also reaffirmed as Italy’s Leading Beach Resort. “What makes our offering unique,” concludes Muntoni, “is the beauty of the Li Junchi beach, which has also been awarded a Blue Flag this year. Stretching 8 kilometres right in front of the resort, it’s much adored by guests who can take long walks on almost deserted areas. Thanks to the nautical centre, they can engage in various water sports: canoeing, sailing courses with catamarans, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.”

Sardinia, fondly known as the ‘Caribbean of Europe’, rivals’ long-haul destinations for British holidaymakers who can experience green, luxury and authentic holidays with epic landscapes all just a two-hour flight from the UK.
