What Are The Fashion Trends For People Going Out In Autumn?

Infused with the youthful zest of Y2K nostalgia, body positivity at its best, and sex appeal mixed with gender fluidity, autumn is set to see a continuation of the spring/summer fashion themes in cosy new ways.

Here are the top six trends that will help us relive the joy of fashion in our wardrobes.

White tank top

This is perhaps the most shocking and unexpected fashion trend for the autumn runway. Amidst the colourful garments, extravagant silhouettes, and faux fur, a plain white tank top seems a bit out of place.

But let’s face it, a white tank top is comfort at its best. Designers swiftly incorporated it into modern-day killer outfits and give it the significance of a new era. Chloé paired a machine-knit feminine tank top with Bordeaux leather pants and boots, while Sacai decided to go for a mesh tank top with silk finishings and a black oversized sporty skirt matched with super-high platform boots.

Accentuate the waistline

At the time of writing, “#corsettok” has 48.3 million views. Corsets are beloved fashion items for Gen Z, and designers are reinforcing that on the runway. In spring and summer, we’re seeing Y2K-inspired corsets being asymmetrically matched with oversized jeans and skirts to welcome the UK warm weather. In autumn, the trend will keep elongating the silhouette and accentuating the waistline with new forms of corsets. Carolina Herrera introduced an elegant evening look featuring an intricate corset resembling classy lingerie and tailored pants in black, accentuated by statement jewellery. This outfit takes on yet another trend from autumn 2022 – that of the empowered catwoman in style.

In a similar fashion, Versace embraced the corset trend across its full collection in a frenzy of colours. The corset was skilfully implemented into tops, dresses, and co-ords in a fierce and bold fashion.

Micro-mini skirts

A true early noughties style, the micro-mini skirt trend that is big this spring/summer will keep going strong in autumn too.

While the hems are high, the fabrics are season-appropriate and woven into intricate silhouettes. Take a look at Christian Cowan’s co-ord tweed skirt and micro jacket, or Kim Shui’s tweed skirt with pink faux fur rim matched with a playful corset in Barbie-girl lingerie style.

Knee-high boots

While skirts are getting shorter, boots are definitely getting higher. It’s time to add a pair of knee-high boots to your autumn wardrobe because they’re going to be the big footwear trend for the season. And the perfect match for them is micro skirts.

On the runway, we saw knee-high boots designs for a range of styles and settings. Carolina Herrera went full-on Ariana Grande with over-the-knee boots in black, while Courrèges went for retro futuristic metallic style. Roberto Cavalli, on the other hand, decided to be bold with colour and fabric and presented mustard velvet knee-high boots to complement a fierce leopard outfit.

The bomber jacket

The bomber jacket, also known as a flight jacket, never goes out of fashion. Originally designed for pilots, it eventually became an integral part of popular culture and fashion. It’s one of the most versatile outerwear items and an unassuming wardrobe staple.

For autumn, beloved designer Elie Saab created a truly luxurious bomber jacket that literally glimmers! We didn’t get away without seeing leather either, as Loewe presented a puffer-style bomber jacket in black leather. We also saw some classic vintage takes on the flight jacket in Isabel Marant and Sacai.

Are you ready to be rocking the streets of autumn in true fashion flair with these trends? You’d better get a head start with your wardrobe revamp!
