An East Yorkshire gourmet beef business is celebrating after being awarded a Highly Commended award in the Great British Food Awards.
Driffield based The Yorkshire Wagyu Company was awarded the accolade for its Original Biltong Slices in the best savoury snack categories that was judged by MasterChef presenter and chef, John Torode.
The judge’s feedback about the Yorkshire Wagyu Biltong, that was launched earlier this year, included: “The flavours of this biltong are complex and delicious, with hints of apple cider vinegar and coriander – a tasty combination our judges hadn’t come across before in a biltong. Overall, well balanced with a good texture – not too chewy or soft.”
The Yorkshire Wagyu Company’s Jonathan Shepherd is delighted with the commendation and said: “We’ve worked hard to grow the Yorkshire Wagyu brand and knowing that our prized Wagyu beef has been praised as a cured product is a real honour.”
The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 by the eponymous magazine to celebrate the country’s finest home-grown ingredients, producers and those who cook with them.
The award winning biltong costs £4.95 for 35g and is available from Whole Foods Market stores nationwide and online at www.yorkshirewagyucompany.co.uk.
