Mayfair Lounge & Grill launch Platinum Afternoon Tea celebrating Queen’s Jubilee

Mayfair Lounge & Grill, at The Cavendish London, launches its new Platinum Afternoon Tea, inspired by flavours of the Commonwealth to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years of service as monarch and Head of the Commonwealth.

Launching Monday 11th April, guests can indulge in sumptuous cakes, layered treats, delectable scones and savoury bites which pay tribute to the flavours and textures from across the Commonwealth. This Includes Cypriot inspired pastries, Mauritian streamed cassava cakes, plus delicious finger sandwiches which pay homage to the tastes of the Caribbean, India, and classic English flavourings to name a few.

The new Platinum Afternoon Tea is the culinary invention of Executive Chef Julian Ward and his expert kitchen team. Discussing the inspiration behind the menu, he said: “There is no afternoon tea quite like this one. We are proud to have a diverse team at Mayfair Lounge & Grill, some of whom are from Commonwealth countries, and we really wanted the new Platinum Afternoon Tea to reflect this.

“We hope to introduce customers to the diverse flavours of the Commonwealth, some will be recognised of course, but I strongly believe many will be surprised that an afternoon tea can be like this. This is certainly a slimmed down version as there are 54 member nations, but with such an array of flavours, textures, and 3 ½ months spent developing the menu, we guarantee this afternoon tea will not disappoint.”

Trained under Anton Edelmann at The Savoy hotel in London, Julian has worked alongside some of the greatest chefs in the world, including Pierre Gagnaire, John George, Nigel Boschetti and Claude Bossi. Julian has also previously served as Executive Chef at London’s JW Steakhouse at the five-star Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane and has been involved in a number of renowned London establishments including Spice Market at the W Hotel Leicester Square, Sketch, and his own restaurant, Hilltop Roti.

Tucked away on the first floor of The Cavendish London, the launch of the new Platinum Afternoon Tea marks a return to royal roots for The Cavendish London, owned by ‘The Duchess of Duke Street’ Rosa Lewis, during the late 19th century. Dubbed the ‘Duchess’ for her royal connections, Rosa Lewis’ culinary services were the height of fashion during the late 19th and 20th century, and were highly praised by the royal family. Her dishes exuded rich and elegant tastes, a trend which continues in present day throughout Mayfair Lounge & Grill’s new afternoon tea.

Barry Vera, Managing Partner of Mayfair Lounge & Grill said: “Mayfair Lounge & Grill always seeks to exceed expectations, and our new Platinum Afternoon Tea is the perfect example of this. Julian and his team have elevated the classic afternoon tea, promising customers the delicious afternoon tea bites they know and enjoy, with a delicious mix of flavours which pay homage to the Commonwealth.”

Adam Elliot, Managing Partner of Mayfair Lounge & Grill agreed: “Julian and his team really have revolutionised the concept of afternoon tea with its new Platinum Afternoon Tea. We could think of no better way to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and as Head of the Commonwealth, than creating an afternoon tea which celebrates her 70 years of service to the crown.”

The new Platinum Afternoon Tea can be enjoyed at Mayfair Lounge & Grill’s richly decorated restaurant, overlooking the glorious views of Jermyn Street from The Cavendish London hotel.
