Le Pont de la Tour, the much-loved riverside French restaurant, will launch Le Pont de la Tour Bistrot on 12 May 2022, over 30 years after the original first opened on the banks of the Thames. Housed in the restaurant’s former bar, the new venue has been inspired by classic French bistros and brasseries, with a menu designed by Executive Chef Tony Fleming. Le Pont de la Tour Bistrot will seat 32 inside, with a further 24 covers on the terrace. The dining experience will be enhanced by live music on Wednesday and Friday evenings, with a variety of sets inspired by French jazz.
The Chef and The Menu…
Tony Fleming trained with the likes of Richard Neat and Marco Pierre White, before going on to win a Michelin star at Angler in 2012, then joining Le Pont de la Tour as Executive Chef in 2020. For Le Pont de la Tour Bistrot, Tony has created a menu inspired by regional French classics and the restaurant’s best-loved dishes with a more pared back approach.
To begin, diners can choose from a selection classically prepared oysters and shellfish, alongside the likes of Warm Comté gougères (£4); Mussel and saffron soup (£10); and Pig’s head terrine (£9).
Standout main courses include Duck confit, peas à la française, honey and Madeira (£20); Morel omelette, fines herbs, petit salad (£14); and Saddleback pork belly, boudin noir and white asparagus (£18). Guests can also enjoy Plats Du Jour such as Rabbit parmentier (£16) on Tuesdays, Ray wing au poivre (£16) on Wednesdays, and Roast sirloin of Cumbrian beef (£22) on Sundays. To conclude, traditional French desserts will include Tarte au citron (£8); Crème caramel (£6) and Sorbets Maison (£5), alongside a selection of French cheeses.
The Drinks…
Head Sommelier Michele Orbolato has created a concise, reasonably priced wine list to complement the menus in Le Pont de la Tour Bistrot, with a selection of both French and world wines starting from just £6 a glass. The Bistrot will also serve a selection of signature cocktails, including The Garden of Eden (Cardamom infused Tanqueray, Galliano, Cointreau, caramel, ginger ale); Save the Bees (Woodford Reserve, sage syrup, honey); and Midnight Stroll (Bulleit, Campari, Fernet, Cointreau).
The History…
Le Pont de la Tour first opened in 1991 in a 19th-century former tea warehouse. It has since become a landmark London restaurant, famed for its French cuisine and unrivalled riverside location with views of Tower Bridge. In its 30-year history, the restaurant has played host to innumerable special occasions, not least a dinner in 1997 for Bill and Hillary Clinton and Tony and Cherie Blair. Le Pont de la Tour has always been known for offering exquisite French food and wine, and since joining in 2020, Executive Chef Tony Fleming has continued this tradition, serving classic French dishes but with his own contemporary flair.
