Three of Eastbourne’s Best Restaurants and Cafés

England’s South-East is a gift that keeps on giving, with miles upon miles of gorgeous coastline and endless resort towns and cities that present the perfect getaway opportunity for the family. Brighton is one of the most recognisable coasts in the South-East, from its pier to its famed arcades – but its neighbour, Eastbourne, is an under-represented gem of a resort with much to offer the domestic holidaymaker, from its signature cliffs to its array of independent cafés and restaurants.

Eastbourne is a short hop along the coast, making it a viable stop in any seaside excursion; there are numerous train routes to Eastbourne, making for an easy journey to an iconic beach followed by afternoon coffee at one of the most underrated coastal towns in the UK. Here are three must-visit food and drink locations in Eastbourne.

Skylark

Skylark is a hybrid café-restaurant, offering up impeccable drinks and seasonal grub with an artisanal touch. Brunch service is from 9am to 3pm, comprising full English breakfasts, shakshuka and a fantastic selection of light brunch cocktails; a small dinner service also takes place between 6pm and 9:30pm, showcasing Skylark’s efforts with locally sourcing high-quality ingredients. Skylark also hosts events of all kinds, with occasional Sundays seeing the winning combination of yoga and refreshing beverages in the form of “Yin and Gin” – alongside a regular Sunday dinner service to die for.

Café 32

Café 32 is a fantastic spot for coffees and afternoon teas, boasting a unique décor in the form of quaint antiques, vibrant flower arrangements and a vague “mad hatter” theme. Indeed, Café 32s flagship afternoon tea is entitled the Mad Hatter’s Tea, comprising tea, prosecco, finger sandwiches, cake and a scone. The Café feature a full breakfast and lunch menu besides, with a variety of heart offerings from avocado toast to spicy veggie chilli. The cake menu is diverse and welcoming, with an ever-changing roster of cakes, muffins and slices to choose from.

The Green Bros

Formerly known as The Green Almond, The Green Bros is the latest iteration of a local institution. A plant-based restaurant with a wide variety of health and accommodating meal options, The Green Bros follows in the footsteps of The Green Almond that once stood in the same spot. Green Bros’ owners Anthony, Robyn and Christian purchased the unit in August 2021, surprised their favourite restaurant was for sale and determined to save it for the community. Their entire menu is plant based and vegan, with gluten-free versions of many dishes available and a unique take-away menu to boot – and all that’s without mentioning the generous and mouth-watering dessert menu. The Green Bros is about as independent as you can get, and a wonderful eating option for the community – just make sure to check their opening times in advance, as they may be subject to change!
